Google Chrome - Creating a new browser user profile

This can fix issues with your Google Chrome opening certain websites

Creating a new browser user profile:
  1. Exit Google Chrome completely.
  2. Go to the Start menu > Run.
  3. Enter one of the following directories in the text field, then press OK.
    • Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\
    • Windows Vista/ Windows 7: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\
  4. Locate the folder called "Default" in the directory window that opens and rename it as "Backup default."
  5. Try opening Google Chrome again. A new "Default" folder is automatically created as you start using the browser.

To transfer bookmarks (favorites) :

  2. Go to "backup default" folder and copy the "Bookmarks.bak"
    • Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\
    • Windows Vista/ Windows 7:  %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\
  3. Delete "bookmarks" from the "default" folder
  4. Paste "bookmarks.bak" into the "default" folder
  5. Rename "bookmarks.bak" to "bookmarks"
  6. Open Chrome and your bookmarks should be there again

* You will need to reconfigure your homepage and settings for Chrome
